Taste Matters started in 2005 when my husband and I found we couldn’t get the products we wanted in Invercargill, and we were both looking for a new direction workwise. Phil went back to his old profession as a chemical engineer and I forged ahead to start the shop. Now, nearly 10 years later, we are still going strong and weathering out the highs and lows of the retail year and the vagaries of the world economic crisis! I say it keeps me off the streets and Phil works (read “plays”) in the shop on Saturdays. We also have 2.5 helpers for when we can’t be here.
I come from a complete customer service background so for me, it’s all about service, ease, smiles, laughter, doing our best for the customer and having the best artisan product that we can find. That means I keep an eye on Cuisine and Dish for ingredients customers may want and also order in especially when I can - I am always searching for new product that isn't in the supermarkets! Being at the bottom of the South Island means that freight and costs are something we always have to be aware of. There are small amounts of a lot of products here – so it’s worthwhile to give us a call or come in and browse. Many visiting chefs have been impressed with what we have here – and that feels good!
